Counselling and Psychotherapy

The type of therapy I practise is called integrative⏤this a form of counselling that combines elements from different therapeutic approaches and theories. Every integrative therapist works differently: my way of working is person-centred but also often draws on more creative methods (making art, telling stories, writing creatively) alongside talk. I do not offer my clients advice or push them in any particular direction. You will not be judged. My aim in therapy is to help you understand yourself better and to support you to draw on your own strengths and to use your intuition about what helps⏤and ultimately to have a more positive relationship with yourself.

I specialise in working with neurodivergent clients, although I am happy to see neurotypical clients too in cases where we are a good fit. The issues I most often work with are exploring what it means to be neurodivergent, low self-esteem and imposter syndrome, anxiety, and childhood trauma. I do not use CBT or any behaviourist approaches.

My practice is gender-affirming and LGBTQi-welcoming and I am committed to working anti-oppressively and with an awareness of racial trauma. I see neurodivergence as a natural human variation⏤and as something to be worked with⏤rather than a problem to be cured. However, I am mindful of the difficulty of being neurodivergent in a neurotypical society and of the depth of suffering neurodivergent people can experience.

My fee is £50 for a one-hour therapeutic session (£60 for coaching) but I have a sliding scale of payment where there is genuine need. I offer a free 30-minute exploratory call prior to working together⏤with no obligation to book a paid session afterwards⏤. Payment is via bank transfer. If you cannot make a counselling or coaching session you have booked with me, you must cancel with at least 24 hours notice – otherwise you may be charged for this session at the full hourly rate.

Coaching

Coaching is distinct from psychotherapy or counselling. While therapy typically addresses past traumas, emotional healing, and mental health concerns, coaching is primarily future-focused and about identifying your personal and professional goals and setting out a structured course for working towards them. As part of my practice, I offer both life-coaching and coaching for work and business.

I specialise in working with academics and postgraduate researchers, and I have particular experience of coaching people through long writing projects such as the doctoral thesis. I also work with senior administrators and managers in a variety of business contexts.

I have worked with coaching clients for over 15 years and have an excellent track record in helping people develop themselves in a range of ways⏤from writing a thesis or book, working towards promotion or starting on a new career path, to growing an existing business. If you want to make changes in your life and need some support to get things done, then coaching may be for you.

I am a qualified EMCC coach-practitioner and I am fully insured and bound by the professional ethical code of the National Counselling Society (MNCPS membership #NCPS 521-01613)

Coaching helped me to explore where I was going and what was important to me. It helped me focus my time and activities on what was important and find a way to move towards my goals and aspirations.

Supervision

I offer neuro-affirming supervision in-person, in Norwich, and online everywhere else. My supervisory style is collaborative, discursive and will encourage you to reflect and be curious about your practice. My theoretical orientation is integrative with a focus on humanistic and creative approaches. My guiding principle in both supervision and therapy is to be anti-oppressive and my practice is LGBTQi+ friendly and gender affirming.

I offer 1-2-1 supervision, mini-group supervision (2-3 people) and one-off consultations. I work with both neurodivergent therapists and neurotypical therapists looking for support in working with neurodivergent clients.

Training Events and CPD

I have over 20 years experience in staff training and development, and until 2021 I was the senior academic staff developer at the University of East Anglia, Norwich. In my private practice I offer bespoke workshops for organisations and groups⏤in coaching and mentoring, inter-personal and communication skills, emotional intelligence and assertiveness, neurodiversity and inclusivity. If you are interested in hiring me to run a training session, please get in touch via the contact tab to arrange a no-obligation call to discuss your needs.

I also run open events and CPD sessions for individuals and those in professional roles that use listening skills. You can find details of upcoming events by clicking on the blog tab in the menu bar.

Stephanie has run two incredible workshops for our Wellbeing Wednesdays programme. These are free community based workshops open to anyone looking for a potential pick-me-up. Stephanie is such a wise and gifted facilitator with an ability to make people feel at ease and creates a safe space in which anyone feels okay to share. The activities she delivered were highly accessible whilst at the same time very powerful. I would highly recommend her to anyone interested in change work.
